HOW TO: Stop receiving duplicate emails

There are a few things you can do to stop getting duplicate email messages:

1.  Start by checking Rules to be sure that copies are not being made in the Inbox, and make sure that all your rules end in "Stop Processing" actions.

2.  Then, check the task manager to be sure that there is only one instance of Outlook running.  Two instances of outlook.exe running simultaneously can produce two messages arriving at the same time. You will need to determine why two instances of Outlook were running in the first place.

3.  Another thing you can do is to delete/remove ALL your email accounts and recreate them. This worked for some people.
There is a Microsoft article explaining the problem more thoroughly at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=284404

4.  Lastly, check and make sure to turn off email reception for one of the POP3 accounts:

i.   Open up your Outlook. Go to Tools --> Send/Receive Settings --> Define Send/Receive Groups.
ii.  Double-click the group that contains the two POP3 accounts, and under Accounts, click one of the POP3 accounts.
iii. Click to clear the Receive mail items check box.
