Setting Up IKEv2 VPN Client in MacOS

IKEv2 is only available on macOS 10.11 ("El Capitan") and above.

Earlier versions only support IKEv1.

Click on System Preferences, and then click on Network.

 

 

Click on +

 

Select VPN in the drop-down menu Interface and IKEv2 as VPN Type. Set the Service Name to MyVPN or to any friendly name for you to easily recognize and afterwards click on Create.

 

Fill in the following fields to configure:   

  • Server Address: VPN server hostname
  • Remote ID: same as the Server Address field
  • Local ID: leave it empty

VPN information as stated below will be located within activation form email:

- VPN Server Hostname
- Username
- Password

Click on the Authentication Settings and proceed to the next step:

 

Select Username as Authentication Setting and enter your credentials.

 

Tick on Show VPN status in menu bar and click on Apply. To establish a VPN connection click on Connect.

 

If connection has been successfully established, the status is shown in the menu bar. You can manage your VPN connection in the network settings.

 

To end VPN session, simply click on Disconnect to end your VPN connection.
